Navigate to common questions:

Getting Started

  • Yes. TDJ works with beginners, developing athletes, and competitive players.

Younger athletes usually begin in Mini Hoopers, while older beginners or developing players usually start in Youth Development after assessment. The goal is not to force every athlete into the same group. The goal is to place each athlete where they can learn, build confidence, and progress properly.

  • The first step for most new youth athletes is a Trial Assessment.

This allows the TDJ coaching team to observe the athlete’s skill level, confidence, coachability, movement, game understanding, and training fit before recommending the right program.

  • TDJ does not place athletes by age alone.

Two athletes can be the same age but have very different skill levels, confidence, physical readiness, and understanding of the game. The assessment helps us recommend the right training environment instead of letting parents guess which program is suitable.

  • Most assessments are conducted as a join-in session. This lets our coaches see how the athlete trains in a real group environment.

We look at how the athlete moves, handles the ball, listens, reacts to coaching cues, plays with others, and responds to feedback.

For high-level athletes, including U.S. pathway prospects, D1-level prospects, or athletes already competing in high-level tournaments, TDJ may arrange an alternative assessment format.

  • Most assessments are join-in sessions.

This gives the coaching team a better picture of how the athlete trains, communicates, reacts, competes, and fits into the TDJ environment. Private or alternative assessments may be arranged for selected high-level athletes where appropriate.

  • TDJ looks at:

    • Age and development stage

    • Skill level

    • Confidence

    • Coachability

    • Game understanding

    • Physical readiness

    • Training habits

    • Communication

    • Attitude and effort

    • Long-term goals

The goal is to recommend the right program, not to judge the athlete harshly.

  • Program placement is decided by the TDJ coaching team.

Parents can share goals and context, but final placement is based on what the coaching team believes is best for the athlete’s current level and development pathway.

  • Competitive Program is placement-based.

Athletes must be assessed first to make sure they are ready for team training, higher standards, game application, and competitive expectations. Some athletes may need time in Youth Development before moving into Competitive Program.

  • Athletes should bring:

    • Basketball shoes

    • Water bottle

    • Basketball, if they have one

    • Comfortable training clothes

    • Any required medication or support items, if applicable

Parents should also make sure TDJ has updated medical, emergency, and contact information.

  • Athletes should arrive at least 10 minutes before session.

This gives them enough time to change shoes, fill water, settle in, and prepare for training.

Programs

  • TDJ’s main public program pathway includes:

    • Trial Assessment

    • Mini Hoopers

    • Youth Development

    • Competitive Program

    • TDJ Elite

    • TDJ Elite Global

    • Adults Program

    • Private / Small Group Training

Youth athletes are placed based on age, readiness, and assessment.

  • Mini Hoopers is for ages 5–8.

It is TDJ’s foundation program for young athletes who are new to basketball or still building confidence in a structured group setting.

Athletes work on movement, coordination, balance, listening habits, basic dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork, and confidence.

  • For younger athletes, TDJ uses age-appropriate teaching methods and has access to a lower rim where suitable.

The goal is to help children learn properly instead of forcing them to use equipment that makes the game too difficult too early.

  • Youth Development is for ages 9–18.

It is TDJ’s core development program for athletes building stronger fundamentals, basketball IQ, confidence, decision-making, and long-term training habits.

This program is suitable for beginners, developing athletes, and players who need more structure before moving into competitive training.

    Entry is placement-based.

  • The Competitive Program is for athletes who are ready for a more serious, team-based training environment.

It focuses on team concepts, competitive habits, game application, decision-making, accountability, and preparation for school teams and Singapore competitions.

  • Youth Development focuses on fundamentals, confidence, basketball IQ, and long-term training habits.

Competitive Program adds team training, game opportunities, competitive standards, accountability, and stronger preparation for school teams and Singapore competitions.

  • TDJ Elite is a selection-based pathway group for Singapore-based TDJ athletes who are ready for higher standards, overseas exposure preparation, pathway education, and more complete athlete development.

This is not an open-enrolment program. Athletes are selected internally based on commitment, coachability, maturity, consistency, and long-term potential.

  • TDJ Elite Global is a broader selection-based pathway that can include TDJ athletes from Singapore and overseas athletes under the TDJ umbrella.

It is connected to trips, camps, exposure events, overseas training environments, and higher-level basketball experiences where available.

  • TDJ Elite is for selected Singapore-based TDJ athletes.

TDJ Elite Global is not limited to Singapore athletes. It may include selected athletes from the wider TDJ network, including overseas athletes involved in TDJ trips, camps, and exposure opportunities.

  • Yes. TDJ offers an Adults Program for ages 21 and up.

This is for former players, committed adults, and working professionals who want structured basketball training rather than casual runs. Adults should enquire first so TDJ can confirm schedule, level, and availability.

  • Yes, but availability is limited.

Private and Small Group Training is run by Head Coach Race and is capped at 3 slots per quarter, subject to renewal and coach availability. This option is for athletes who need more personalised development outside the regular group pathway.

Pricing & Program Options

  • TDJ shares full pricing after assessment because the right option depends on the athlete’s placement.

Some athletes are best suited for flexible session credits. Others need a structured monthly membership, Competitive Season pathway, or private/small group support.

We want to recommend the right program first, then share the correct pricing clearly.

  • After the assessment, TDJ will recommend the right program and share the relevant pricing options.

This may include session credits, monthly memberships, competitive season programs, private training, or selected pathway options depending on the athlete’s fit.

  • You can ask, but TDJ’s recommendation will still depend on assessment and placement.

The best first step is to book an assessment so the coaching team can recommend the correct pathway. Full pricing is shared after the athlete’s level and program fit are clearer.

  • TDJ may offer:

    • Session credits or packs

    • Monthly memberships

    • Competitive season programs

    • Private or small group training

    • Selected pathway options for higher-level athletes

The right option depends on age, readiness, training goals, commitment level, and program fit.

  • No. Packages and memberships are personal to the registered athlete and cannot be shared between siblings.

  • Sibling discounts may be available by enquiry.

Any sibling discount is subject to TDJ approval, program fit, and current offer conditions.

  • Founding rates and limited-time offers are communicated through TDJ’s official announcement bar and Founding Rates page.

Eligibility, conditions, and timelines may apply.

Schedule, Booking & Attendance

  • The most updated schedule is shown through TDJ’s booking software and official communication channels.

Because athlete grouping, court allocation, and program schedules may change, parents should refer to Rezerv, WhatsApp updates, or TDJ’s official communication channels for current availability.

  • TDJ schedules sessions through selected training venues and official program locations in Singapore.

Parents should refer to the booking software and TDJ’s official updates for the latest location and schedule details.

TDJ generally aims to keep training accessible for families, with a focus on South-East and central Singapore where possible.

  • Bookings should be made through TDJ’s approved booking system or official booking channel.

Parents should avoid relying on informal messages unless TDJ has expressly acknowledged the request.

  • Missed sessions do not automatically qualify for refunds, credits, extensions, or make-up sessions.

Parents should follow the booking and cancellation policy carefully and manage attendance through the approved booking system.

  • Cancellation or rescheduling requests must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled session through TDJ’s approved booking channel.

Late cancellations may result in forfeiture of the relevant session, credit, or fee.

  • Athletes should arrive at least 10 minutes before session.

Late entry is at TDJ’s discretion, especially for group sessions where safety, warm-up, and disruption are factors. Late arrival does not entitle the athlete to extra time, make-up sessions, refunds, or credits.

  • A no-show may result in forfeiture of the relevant session, credit, or fee.

Please cancel or reschedule early through the approved booking channel if your child cannot attend.

  • TDJ does not operate a general make-up session system.

Parents should follow the schedule and manage attendance through the booking platform. Any exceptions are at TDJ’s discretion.

  • If TDJ cancels a session, TDJ may offer a replacement session or reinstate the relevant credit/session entitlement.

TDJ will communicate the next step through official channels.

Games, Competitions & Teams

  • Official games and tournaments are included for eligible membership or season-based athletes where applicable.

Session-pack athletes should assume their package is for training only unless TDJ confirms otherwise.

  • Session packs are generally for training only.

Games, friendlies, tournaments, and official team opportunities are usually connected to membership or season-based programs.

  • Game opportunities may happen around 1–2 times per week depending on program, age group, schedule, league access, venue availability, and athlete readiness.

This may include friendlies, internal games, controlled scrimmages, 3x3 formats, or external competitions.

  • If league access is unavailable or delayed, TDJ may use alternatives such as:

    • Friendlies

    • Internal games

    • Controlled scrimmages

    • 3x3 competitions

    • External tournaments

    • Other suitable competition formats

The goal is to keep athletes developing through real game application.

  • For membership or season-based athletes, TDJ aims to include official games and tournament-related costs within the membership price where applicable.

If any special event or external opportunity has separate costs, TDJ will communicate those clearly before commitment.

  • Yes.

Athletes selected into the Competitive Program are part of a tournament team and will have access to games, tournaments, and team competition opportunities as part of the program.

Selection into the Competitive Program itself is based on readiness, attendance, effort, coachability, conduct, and overall fit. Athletes may progress from Youth Development into the Competitive Program when the coaching team believes they are ready for a more competitive team environment.

Elite Pathway & Overseas Exposure

  • TDJ can support serious athletes with overseas exposure, U.S. trip opportunities, pathway education, training environments, and guidance where appropriate.

However, opportunities depend on the athlete’s commitment, development level, coachability, readiness, and TDJ’s assessment.

TDJ does not guarantee scholarships, D1 placement, professional contracts, or overseas selection.

  • Depending on the athlete and program, TDJ may support:

    • U.S. trips

    • Overseas training exposure

    • Camps and clinics

    • College pathway education

    • Training with NBA/D1-linked coaches or athletes where available

    • Higher-level basketball environments

    • Mentorship and pathway guidance

Opportunities are earned through standards, not promised automatically.

  • No.

Head Coach Race is an NBA-level coach who actively oversees athlete development, regularly reviews progress, and helps maintain TDJ’s coaching standards across the academy. While he may not personally run every weekly session, he remains involved in athlete development, program quality, and coaching direction.

Coach Trevor serves as TDJ’s Program Director and oversees the academy’s overall athlete pathway. He is also the primary lead for athletes pursuing higher-level opportunities, including playing professionally overseas or targeting NCAA Division I, II, or III pathways in the United States.

TDJ’s wider NBA/D1-linked network further supports the academy through curriculum input, coach education, events, film review, overseas exposure, and pathway access where available. However, parents should not assume that NBA or D1 coaches are physically present and running every regular weekly session.

  • No.

With TDJ’s network and connections, we can help committed athletes understand the pathway, prepare better, access higher-level exposure where appropriate, and connect with relevant basketball environments where possible. However, opportunities depend heavily on the athlete’s commitment, development, coachability, and readiness. Scholarships, school recruitment, team placement, and professional opportunities are never guaranteed.

  • TDJ Elite athletes are selected internally based on:

    • Commitment

    • Coachability

    • Consistency

    • Maturity

    • Conduct

    • Training habits

    • Game understanding

    • Physical readiness

    • Long-term pathway potential

Selection is not based only on talent.

  • Selected athletes are expected to meet higher standards around attendance, effort, attitude, communication, conduct, and accountability.

Athletes may be required to follow TDJ athlete commitment standards before joining pathway events, trips, or exposure opportunities.

Progress, Communication & Parent Updates

  • Yes, depending on the program.

Parent updates may be monthly to quarterly depending on the athlete’s program, training consistency, and TDJ’s review system as it continues to roll out.

  • TDJ is gradually rolling out a more structured athlete review system.

The goal is to help parents understand what the athlete is improving, what still needs work, and what the next step may require.

  • Film review may be used for selected Competitive and Elite athletes where suitable.

It is not guaranteed for every athlete or every program.

  • Strength and conditioning support is mainly connected to Competitive and Elite pathway athletes.

TDJ may use performance coaching support to help selected athletes address athletic gaps such as movement, strength, explosiveness, conditioning, and physical readiness.

  • Nutrition and sports psychology components are planned as future pathway support areas.

These will be introduced carefully and are most likely to support Competitive and Elite pathway athletes first.

  • Parents should contact TDJ through official TDJ admin or WhatsApp channels.

This helps keep communication clear and prevents coaches from being overloaded with direct messages during training periods.

  • Parents should route questions through TDJ’s official admin or WhatsApp channel unless TDJ has specifically arranged otherwise.

This keeps communication organised and ensures important information is tracked properly.

TDJ Legacy Project, Sponsorship & Financial Assistance

  • The TDJ Legacy Project is TDJ’s access and impact pathway.

It allows selected athletes to receive support through sponsorships, financial assistance, equipment support, camp access, training support, or pathway opportunities where available.

TDJ believes serious basketball development should not be reserved only for families with the highest spending power.

  • Yes. TDJ may offer financial assistance for selected families with genuine need.

Support is reviewed case by case and is not guaranteed.

  • Yes. TDJ may offer sponsorship support for high-potential athletes who show strong commitment, coachability, conduct, and long-term development potential.

Sponsorship support depends on available sponsor funding, program fit, and TDJ approval.

  • Parents can enquire through TDJ’s official WhatsApp channel.

TDJ may request supporting information or documents to understand the family’s circumstances and assess eligibility.

  • TDJ may request documents such as:

    • NRIC or birth certificates for household members

    • Recent payslips

    • IRAS Notice of Assessment

    • CPF contribution records

    • Bank statements

    • Termination or retrenchment letters

    • Utility bills

    • Medical certificates or memos

    • Divorce, custody, death, tenancy, or other supporting documents where relevant

This list is not exhaustive. TDJ may request additional documents depending on the situation.

  • No.

Financial assistance is selective, case-by-case, and subject to TDJ’s review, athlete commitment, family circumstances, conduct, coachability, available funding, and program capacity.

TDJ reserves all rights to approve, decline, adjust, pause, or withdraw support.

  • Supported athletes are expected to show:

    • Strong attendance

    • Punctuality

    • Effort

    • Coachability

    • Respect for coaches and teammates

    • Good conduct

    • Commitment to training

    • Gratitude and maturity

Support is an opportunity, not an entitlement.

Safety, Waivers & Conduct

  • Parents and athletes may need to complete TDJ’s required waivers, acknowledgements, consent forms, and code of conduct documents before participation.

These may include general waiver documents, parental consent forms, and safe sport/code of conduct acknowledgements.

  • Parents must inform TDJ before participation if the athlete has any injury, medical condition, allergy, behavioural concern, disability, or other factor that may affect safe participation.

This helps TDJ make better training and safety decisions.

  • Basketball is a physical sport and carries inherent risks, including falls, contact, muscle strains, impact injuries, and other sport-related injuries.

TDJ takes safety seriously, but parents and athletes must understand that participation involves risk.

  • If TDJ believes emergency medical support is needed, TDJ may arrange first aid, contact emergency services, contact the emergency contact on file, and take reasonable steps based on the situation.

Parents are responsible for third-party medical, transport, hospital, or related costs.

  • Parents may watch where venue rules and session setup allow.

However, parents must not interrupt the session, coach from the sidelines, interfere with player discipline, or disrupt the training environment.

  • No.

Parents should not sideline coach during TDJ sessions. It confuses the athlete, disrupts the coach’s teaching, and affects the training environment for the group.

  • If an athlete repeatedly disrupts the session, refuses to listen, behaves unsafely, or does not meet TDJ’s conduct standards, TDJ may inform the parent, sit the athlete out, suspend participation, or take further action.

In serious cases, membership or participation may be terminated or forfeited.

  • TDJ does not tolerate:

    • Bullying

    • Harassment

    • Disrespect toward coaches or teammates

    • Unsafe behaviour

    • Fighting

    • Abusive language

    • Repeated disruption

    • Damage to facilities or equipment

    • Parent interference with coaching

    • Dishonest conduct around age, eligibility, attendance, or payment

  • Yes.

TDJ may remove, suspend, or terminate participation if an athlete or parent breaches TDJ policies, creates safety concerns, disrupts training, or fails to meet conduct expectations.

  • Recording or publishing TDJ sessions may be restricted unless TDJ gives permission.

Parents should ask first before recording or posting content from sessions.

  • TDJ may take photos or videos during sessions, camps, clinics, games, and events for coaching, operational, safeguarding, community, or promotional purposes, subject to TDJ’s privacy policy and recorded media preferences.

Parents should inform TDJ if they have specific media concerns.

  • TDJ handles personal data in line with its privacy policy and relevant Singapore data protection requirements.

Personal data may be used for bookings, communication, athlete safety, payment administration, emergency response, service delivery, and other legitimate operational needs.

Locations & Facility

  • TDJ is building toward a more controlled indoor academy model with stronger consistency, scheduling, and training structure.

Parents should refer to TDJ’s official booking software and communication channels for the latest confirmed training venue and schedule.

  • TDJ generally aims to keep training accessible for families in Singapore, especially around South-East and central areas where possible.

Exact training locations depend on program schedule, venue access, athlete grouping, and operational needs.

  • TDJ may update venues, schedules, coaches, or session formats where necessary for operational, safety, or programming reasons.

Parents will be updated through official communication channels.

Camps, Clinics & Events

  • Yes. TDJ may run camps during suitable school holiday periods or special windows.

Camps are designed to support skill development, confidence, game understanding, and athlete assessment.

  • Some camps may be suitable for beginners, while others may be better suited for intermediate or competitive athletes.

TDJ will communicate the intended age group and level for each camp.

  • Some events may be included for eligible members, while others may require separate registration or payment.

TDJ will communicate event-specific details before registration.

Adults, Private Training & Special Requests

  • Yes. TDJ offers structured adult basketball training for committed adults, former players, and working professionals who want serious training.

Adults should enquire first so TDJ can confirm the right schedule, level, and availability.

  • Private and Small Group Training is application-based and subject to Head Coach Race’s availability.

Because it is limited to 3 slots per quarter, parents or athletes should enquire first.

  • Private and Small Group Training is run by Head Coach Race.

This protects quality and keeps the training highly personalised.

  • Not always.

Private training is useful for focused correction and individual development, but many athletes still need group training to develop decision-making, spacing, communication, and game application.

How do I get started?

Start with an assessment.

This allows the TDJ coaching team to recommend the right program based on your athlete’s age, ability, confidence, coachability, game understanding, and goals.
